For years THE INSTITUTION in Gelsenkirchen when it comes to cozy and authentic Portuguese delicacies from Mediterranean cuisine. Owned by the owner, the chef Jil himself cooks evening after evening! During this time, his dear wife Elisabeth also makes sure that the throat does not stay dry. Anyone who has got used to the tasty Portuguese Pils SUPERBOCK on vacation and also wants to enjoy it here with excellent sauce: no problem, it is freshly brewed here with love and expertise in 7 minutes! Yes, out of the barrel and not out of the bottle! ;-) What should I rave about ?! Just go there and enjoy a wonderful evening in typical local furnishings. So you don't necessarily have to drive 3000 km to feel like a king in Portugal ... when the good or the BEST is so close! Special requests besides the menu are also fulfilled here! It couldn't be better, just try it out. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. When the weather is nice or for smokers, the outside terrace or the cozy beer garden in the courtyard is also ideal!

The local is really easy to get to! The convenient transport connections mean that a meal trip can be done quickly, and most of the time, the taste is a pleasure. The portions are an appealing and filling dimension. Here you get both and: sympathetic and fast waiters. I think the prices are completely ok.

Delicious and authentic Portuguese cuisine paired with equally authentic Portuguese hospitality. Gil has everything from Portuguese "snacks" like the bifana to the classic bitoque steak with fried egg and the potato wedges that are so typical of Portugal - to classic fish dishes like bacalhau (fried stockfish) or grilled sardines. A freshly tapped Portuguese Super Bock - or a Sagres from the bottle - and for dessert a Pastel de Nata (a cup cake made of puff pastry, filled with vanilla pudding, be sure to google pictures!) Along with espresso (or Bica, as it should be called) . Anyone in Gelsenkirchen or the surrounding area If you are looking for an authentic feel-good experience in the style of the most south-westerly Europeans, you cannot avoid a visit to Gil.

Very nice service, very attentive. I personally find the food rather average, but reasonably priced ok. The beer garden should be spiced up urgently, I find it lovelessly furnished, a lot of plastic and little attention to detail. Too bad because otherwise really nice there.

We just wanted to have a nice evening and have a nice meal. The visit was a horror! Food was inedible, there was also bread from the previous day. Staff was also very rude. Save yourself an experience like this! We will never go to this restaurant again!

Nice little place. Very nice service. Reservation makes sense, it was very well attended. You can find it on the manageable map. Small deductions due to the location, parking lot situation and the somewhat rustic ambience. Still, food was delicious and value for money also fits. Unreserved recommendation.

A Portuguese house in the center of Essen! As good Portuguese know how to receive, this does not escape the rule !!! Amazing food, fantastic atmosphere and the five star staff. Dona Beta is a luxury hostess and Mr. Gil is a chef of excellence. When to return and stop MANDATORY.
